First of all, I am 4 months into maintaining my own pool. Keeping levels pretty well (I think, maybe I’m missing something huge and just too ignorant to know)

FC: 9.0
CC: 0.0
pH: 8.0
TA: 70
CH: 350
CYA: 70
Salt: 3400

I just tested, tonight I’ll be cleaning and bringing pH down with 31%MA, will also slightly shorten the run time of my SWG.

REAL REASON I’M POSTING...

1) As you all recommended I use the Taylor K-2006 Complete FAS-DPD
I Need a refill of my R-0870 DPD Powder.
A) Where should I order from?
B) Why is this better than liquid? I feel like I’d be significantly more accurate with a dropper.

2) If when doing my CYA test, the level is between two numbers, which way should I be rounding, up v down?

THANKS!

For the CYA - round up. Just like taxes. :)

For the powder, you can order it here: R-0870 DPD Powder (for TF-100 and K-2006). Or for a better value get the entire FAS-DPD here: FAS/DPD Chlorine CC's test.

By using the power & drops (FAS-DPD) you get pinpoint accuracy of the FC as opposed to a general "presence" of chlorine from the OTO viewer.

TFTestkits.net for refills. Get the R0871 too. Only use one full scoop of powder when testing using the 10 ml sample.

CYA vial is logarithmic. So always round up.

The FAS-DPD test is the most accurate FC test for residential use there is. If you think you could use a color matching test when your FC is within the range of that test, use it. Just check yourself with the FAS-DPD every few days.
