Purpose of check valve on spa return side?

But if that’s the return line, how will the water drain down? The valve is closed to the rest of the pool and the only place for It to go down is the spa. I’m confused at how It can go back up!

The check valve is there for when the return valve is set to provide water to both pool and spa for continuous spillover.

It appears you have the valve set for the spa to be OFF when in Pool mode. So I would guess you have automation and have scheduled times for spa circulation?

Yes. I have automation and spillover. For a couple hours per day. So if I have Spa completely off while pool is on, then the check valve is obsolete?

One other question. Spillover suctions water from the pool, yes?

The check valve is unnecessary if you always have the valve off to the spa when the pump is not running.

Yes, Spillover suctions from pool and returns to spa.

Please add your automation and spa to your signature.

What automation do you have? The more detailed your signature, the fewer questions later.
