Purechlor salt generators

Tampa, Fl.
Am thinking about switching over to a salt chlorinated pool and am considering a Purechlor salt generator. They have a five year warranty on there salt cell. Would like some input from the experts on this site regarding this particular system. So many different salt generators available, but was primarily targeting the Purechlor system. Thank you.

Be sure it is rated for at least 2X your pool volume. In Florida, I would not go with a SWCG rated for less than 35K gallon pool with your pool size.

It appears you have a single speed motor on your pump. Be aware that you will be running your SWCG for as long as it is needed to generate the chlorine you need. So your pump run time may increase. More reason to get a larger rated SWCG.

As Marty pointed out, a single speed pump and an SWG present a cost issue - since SWG’s only produce a fixed amount of chlorine per 24 hours of run time, you could be running that energy hog for a lot longer than you’d prefer. I always suggest that single speed pump owners consider changing over to a 2-speed pump or variable speed pump if you want to go the SWG route. Otherwise you’ll be spending a lot more money to run your pool.

During the hot summer months, I normally run my single stage pool pump 8 to 9 hours per day. Do I understand You to say, the SWCG would not produce sufficient chlorine to maintain a proper chlorine level in that number of hours. Pump is relatively new so would like to get some life out of it. Thank you for your posts. How about the Purechlor system itself? Are there better systems to choose?

Will study up on the CircuPool RJ Series. SJ-40 seems the correct model for my pool size. Am not going to do the installation. Leave that to a professional installer. Was hoping to get some opinions on the Purechlor SWG. Not seeing it included when ratings of the best systems are compared. That raises some concern. CircuPool is always listed when the best comparisions are made. Definitily want self cleaning, want a flow sensor. Anything else that I should want in a SWG system? Appreciate all the input. Really helping me make the right decision.

CircuPool is often a DIY install. You should talk to installers around you and find out which SWGs they will install, support, and warranty.

All of them are equally self cleaning and have a flow sensor. You need the SWG wired so it is only powered when the pump is powered.

Do you intend to get any automation?

I'm having the same issue. The easy choice for me is to go Jandy since I'd really like to continue to use my iAqualink. I also want to install myself (I am qualified to do the electrical) and I did the entire rs 12 system myself. But now Jandy has eliminated the warranty unless I buy from an authorized rep and installer. They even drastically reduce the warranty if I buy it online from any of the major pool suppliers. So I'm looking at Purchler and Circupool. It's really difficult because I can't find any independent testing to verify capacities and real specs for better comparison like chlorine production per area of electrode or watt. So I'll see if I can find out which one might work with home made automation and go with that.

I did a search on Purechlor and couldn't find much on the system. It looks very similar to other brands and is most likely a copy of the other brands. I couldn't easily find a place to buy it. Personally, I would buy a SWG that has more backing behind it than that brand.

Thank you very much for your post. I have a lot of trust in this forum and when not getting any feedback on the Purechlor SWG, the red flags began to go up. Can you recommend a SWG that has more backing behind it and more commonly used by members of this forum. Thank You.

My SWCG is an Intellichlor 40 from Pentair. I have Pentair automation and thus my SWCG, pump, and automation are Pentair. For standalone SWCG systems, especially DIY install, Circupool is well regarded here on the forum.

Again, thank you very much. The information has been most valuable, allowing me to make the best decision for my setup. As for Circupool and a DIY installation, I am getting near my 78th birthday and do not feel comfortable getting into such a project. If I were to purchase a Circupool SWG, what trade would you recommend I look at for an install. Do not have any sons or sons in law. Hope that I am not burdening You or the forum with my inquiries. Have always been a chlorine jug pool owner, with good success, but the "buzz" seems to be SWG, so thought maybe I needed to get up to speed. Appreciate all your suggestions and guidance.

You may find a pool maintenance person locally that will install it. Then an electrician to hook it to power. It must be set up so that it gets power ONLY when the pump is running.

You may run into push back from pool companies as they will most likely be aligned with a major supplier. Such as Jandy, Hayward, Pentair, etc. They may only install their brand of unit.

The cost to install will add ~$500 (or more) to the system cost.

Appreciate all the good advice and knowledge. A lot going through this old head at this time, so need to step back a little and give it a little more study. All the information you gave me has provided a great foundation. Spent some time this afternoon running some water tests today with my tf100 test kit. Water looks and tested beautiful. Maybe I am just a "chlorine jug guy" and uncomfortable taking the SWG step. Not wanting to leave my comfort zone. Thank you for all your help.

Daily addition of liquid chlorine is great if you are home all the time. We travel, alot, and thus the SWCG maintains our FC while we are gone.

Take care.

My wife and I are home all the time. Had to travel when younger, but am now retired, glad to not be out on the road; plus we have a 95 year old Mama that lives with us. She is my wife's Mom, a special lady that gave me such a wonderful wife. Couple of months away from our 54th wedding anniversary. Am very blessed. Greatly appreciate all your advise and wisdom that You have shared with me. Feel better equipped in moving ahead with the right decision for me. Thank you !!

Warranties are a dirty little secret in the chlorinator business. They are never as they are advertised. In the case of PureChlor they advertise a 5 year limited warranty. If you dig into the details of their warranty, you find that it's actually a PRO-RATED warranty. First wo years are covered at 100% replacement. Years 3-5 at a price not exceed 60% of the current MSRP of the product at the time of the warranty claim. The MSRP is rarely disclosed. At least you can find this information buried on their website. Most of the other cell manufacturers fail to tell you this information because it gives then the ability to adjust MSRP at their whim and it ends up with years 3-5 (or whatever the proration periods are) being worthless as your replacement cost will be the same as buying a new unit. So in your case, consider this to be a two year warranty.

You'll also need to provide proof of purchase to process any claims.
