I’m a new pool owner. Just installed new Pentair variable speed pump and filter. At a speed of 3000 the filter pressure is 10#. At a pump speed of 2000 the filter pressure is 2#. Which is a better combination?

Welcome to TFP! Managing pump speed and monitoring filter pressure require two different schools of thought. For the VSP, consider a low rpm of about 1,200 - 1,400 most of the time. You may increase the rpms for cleaning, chemical mixing, or just to purge air out of the pump pot. But most of the time a low rpm is just fine.

For the filter PSI, it will always be low or almost zero when on a low rpm. The key to filter pressure is knowing what your clean filter pressure is at a higher rpm, then watching to see when that pressure increases by 25%. That's when you know it's time to clean the filter.

Accurate pool chemistry with a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C is also very important. If you get a heavy organic load (algae) the pressure will increase quickly.
