Opened my pool last weekend. Pump is throwing a 0002 error and motor not starting whenever it is stopped, until I take an allen wrench and give the impeller a few turns from the back side. My suspicion is that pine needles got into the impeller and are lodged between the impeller and the casing - that's happened to me before. (I use a skimmer sock / hairnet but some always get through.) So, I'm going to open it up and clean it out.

Is there anything I should look for or do with the pump while I have the impeller exposed? It's a Pentair Intelliflow VSF.

Thanks!

The only things that come to my mind are:
- Check impeller screw for security; probably left-handed tightening
- Depending on the age of the pump, have fresh gaskets/O-ring (as applicable) when you separate the wet & dry ends. May not deed it, but if a seal tears that would stink.

Pump is 2 years old this year. Should I order parts and wait to open it? It does work now, but I have to kind of manually kick-start it with the allen wrench each time it does start. And sometimes it shuts off on its own (always has, never figured that out) and when it does it needs attention to re-start.

EDIT: Gonna order new seals anyway since we can store and they don't go bad, but should I wait for that to arrive first, given how relatively new it is?

Just to be safe, you might consider increasing the FC level a bit before shutting it down in the unfortunate scenario a seal is bad. You never know when you dive into these things. :brickwall:
