I have this Bestway flowclear sand filter/pump that came with our pool. I'm in Southwest Louisiana and struggled all last summer to keep our pool water clear. I found a used Pentair OptiFlo 1HP Vertical Above Ground Pool Pump with 3' Standard Cord 115V | EC-348196 pump (Pentair OptiFlo 1HP Vertical Above Ground Pool Pump with 3' Standard Cord 115V | EC-348196) I am thinking of upgrading to. I am totally clueless when it comes to all of this. First time pool owner and second summer with this pool. A couple of questions:
Is this a good/reliable brand?
Will this work with the hoses our Bestway pool came with?
If not, what do I need to make the switch?
Someone has mentioned to me using the same sand filter, just switching out the pump. Is that beneficial, or even possible?

Welcome to TFP! I would not get the motor you linked above. Its' a single speed only and will drive your energy costs through the roof. If you're going to upgrade to something other than the tiny Bestway package (a good idea by the way), then look for a sand filter that is at least 18"-20" in size and and pump (motor) that somewhere around the 3/4-1 HP range and is either a variable speed or at the very least a 2-speed so you can run it on low most of the time. Also keep in mind that those companies like Bestway, Intex, and Coleman use proprietary fittings (1.25" or 40mm) to connect their hoses to the fittings, pump, and filter. As such, if you go with a different manufacturer, you'll need adapters to help connect everything. Not the end of the world, many AGP owners here have done it, I just wanted you to be aware of it in advance.

Hope that helps.

Hi there, if you haven’t found something already, the pump and filter in my signature has worked really well for me.
