Probably fine, but can I use a 1 1/4 hose from skimmer to pump?

So I'm working on setting up the new replacement pool, and one of the two 1 1/2 hoses I have is defective, with water running out from under the cuff. I had also gotten some 1 1/4 hoses because the bigger ones were out of stock and any hose is probably better than no hose.

My question is whether or not there will be any issue with water volume being too low with that being the intake for the pump from the skimmer. My pump is a brand new 1HP 2 speed Harris above ground, so I'm not too familiar with how much water it pulls in normally with the larger hose...

It should be fine, right? I could theoretically use all 1 1/4 hoses, couldn't I? I mean, I'm using some fittings that work for both 1 1/4 and 1 1/2, so would the smaller hose make any difference?

The hose replacement is on hold until I can fix the darn skimmer (I've got a separate thread on that...), but this is still worrying me because I don't want to fix the skimmer and have the too hose break it or something...

Unless those hoses old dried plastic (or very low quality) they won’t break. You are going to be restricting the flow and increasing water, what in turn may increase the wear of some parts and equipment. (Greater speed = greater likelihood and strength of a hydraulic hammer).

Soooo... I went and installed the 3 ft 1 1/4in hose from the skimmer to the pump, got the pump running, and then went and read the instructions for the pump because I couldn't figure out how to adjust the program...

The directions specifically say NOT to do what I did - the hose for the intake should NOT be smaller than the hose to the filter.

Just in case anyone else comes across this later, apparently you shouldn't use a 1 1/4in hose from the skimmer to the pump if the hose to the filter is 1 1/2in. Since this is temporary, it shouldn't be too big a deal... but FYI.
