Have some thick pollen on the steps underwater. Can I just pressure wash the steps with a long wand??

I have used a weak pressure washer many time. Dont get too close or use too pointy a nozzle.

Yes.
Pollen should brush up easily. Maybe you're dealing with something else.
We wondered about algae. But it looks and feels like Douglas fir pollen which is really sticky. Pool otherwise looks good by appearance and chemistry.
As an aside, the walls and bottoms of the pool look ok to us but we have never liked the steps. Maybe a light pressure wash would make them look better.
