Pressure limit warning

Hello, I'm new to forums so hopefully I'm not breaking any rules. I have an Intelliflo 3 vsf pump. It seems to be working much harder that it should be. It's only about 6 months old. I keep getting high pressure warnings and I've also gotten a speed limit warning.

My pool cleaning company installed the pump. They had it set at 40gpm during the day to get good flow and heat the pool. To fix the issue all they did was turn it down to 40% speed, which ends up being 10gpm. I really don't know much about pools, but 10gpm seems tiny for the size of the pump, it shouldn't be working at half speed.

A little background on my pool. It's 15x30ft. It's older from the 70s, but we just had it redone last spring. We have a hybrid heating system that includes solar panels on the roof and a heat pump. So if the water on the roof is warm enough the water goes from the pump up the roof through the solar and then down through the heat pump. I have 9 solar panels... I don't think that's the issue because I get the pressure warning whether the solar is on or off.

I'm attaching some photos. Any suggestions would be helpful. This is a vacation rental that I own in FL that I manage from NH where I don't have a pool. For some reason no pool professional seems to do all parts of the work well. Some do pumps but they don't know solar, others don't do heat pumps, etc. It's hard to find people that can look at the whole system and find the problem.

One more thing, I dont know hoe big my filter is. I can find out. I wonder if it is too small. I think the pump has worked harder than it should since it was installed, but its definitely gotten worse and now Im gettijg constant warnings.

Thank you

V,

Most pools in Florida have very dinky filters and I suspect yours is also..

As a temp fix, I would increase your "Max pressure" to 35 or 40..

I suspect your filter is dirty and that it is running close to 30 all the time. When it starts at 10 am, the priming speed causes the pressure to go up above 30..

I don't understand your schedules.. Program one has the pump running at 43% from 10 am to 10 pm and program two has your pump running at 25 GPM for basically the same time??? On most IntelliFlo pumps when the pump sees two different speeds, it will always run the faster one.. Do you know which program is actually running from 10 am to 10 am??

I am not all that familiar with the IntelliFlo3, so maybe it is different.

The whole point of a VS pump is to run it as slow as you can and still get the job done. I run mine at 1200 RPM most of the time and this is about 200 watts.. Just to compare apples to apples, what wattage does your pump consume when it is running???

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hi Jim,

They couldn't set it low enough to not trigger the alert, so instead of setting it by gpm they went by speed, which allowed then to drop below 20gpm. If you set gpm you can't go below 20gpm. I changes changes second setting because I don't think my heater will even run at less that 20gpm... At 20gpm the pump is running at 75% speed, which seems ridiculous. It's using 760watts at this speed.

Thanks for the help. The filter is one of those round blue paper filters like a hot tub... The prior pump was smaller, so it would seem possible the filter is not big enough.

V,

Your max pressure is set to 30.. You would want the max pressure to increase to prevent an alert, not turn it down..

When was the last time your filter was cleaned? When was the last time the cartridge was replaced?

Are you in NH or FL now??

Thanks,

Jim R.
