Porcelain Tile for Pool

I have a wall section of my pool that I want to add tile to. My research says that as long as it's glazed porcelain tile with a <.50% water absortion rate, it should be okay. I've found a good tile I like for a good price. However, all of the pool tile websites say I need tile specifially designed for pools and (of course) they want 5-10 times the price for it. Beyond the glazing and water absorption rate I'm not really sure what else would be critical for manufacturing except perhaps durability for tile under a lot of wear and tear. The tile is on the wall so that would be a non-issue. Is this just another case of the 'swimming pool tax' philosophy with tile websites?
