We are under construction and have chosen porcelain pavers through our (reputable) pool builder for decking, coping and waterline. I never asked about the transition but was shown a mitered piece in the showroom. Here is what they had done when we arrived home. They claim that this is “what they do” with porcelain pavers. Is this common to have the unfinished edge showing? Thx.

Welcome to TFP.

Nothing can be assumed in construction that is not specified.

If you were buying what they showed you in the showroom then you should insist on getting it.

I will bet the guys setting the tile have never seen what is in the showroom.
