Hey everyone a new member here,

I just got my lagoon style pool installed and had our pool guy run waterfall PVC line I was going to have his mason guy build it while he was installing our pavers but decided to save the $6500 and do it myself. My plan is to build it 16ft long with 3 spillovers and do a tiered look. Have the 2 outside tiers 4ft long and 2ft high and have the middle 4ft long and 32inches high. I leaning 24inch CMP spillovers. Will be using cement blocks and using the same stacking stone thats in-front of the house. My question is for people who built there own waterfalls any advice or tips, whats the best mortar type for installing stacking stone to cement blocks, start the wall right on the edge of bullnose or leave it a few inches back etc...

The waterfall will be on the back part of the pool between both skimmers.

Welcome to TFP Chris!

This sounds like a great project. Make sure you keep us up-to-date with progress and photos. Looking forward to seeing the end result. Hopefully you'll find the answers to your questions here.

While you're here, spend a bit time wading around in Pool School.

Someone else will have to chime in on material use on blocks, but do think about setting the falls over the water and not behind coping that's already installed. The fall should be able to use like a dimmer light, dim to bright, in this case anything from slow easy flow to full force. If behind the coping any, all you can run is full force to clear coping to water.

Our builder used Laticrete 254R Platinum Rapid for our stacked stone walls, which were a combination of shotcrete and cement block. It's rated for submerged applications, and should work well on your waterfall.

Chris, maybe a bit late with these comments…I didn’t use stock spillovers/sheer descents but you might want to take a look at my build thread (in my signature). My pool is similar “looking” to yours and your plans are similar to what mine were. I had to lay some foundations for my “waterfall wall”. Three 24” sheer descents would probably require a high gpm…not sure what the spillovers require, but make sure your piping & pump plans need to support it.
