Hi everyone, im a new pool owner and this is my 1st question after reading through this great forum. I will post more pictures & info on my pool as soon as I get an opportunity, but here's A little background on my pool situation. I drained and painted my pool (I know, I went low budget and probably wasted my money) and im getting ready to start filling it this Friday 3/29. after researching, many people recommends adding a sequestering agent like GLB sequa-sol but some people also recommends a metal/scale controller to be added while 1st filling. my question is, are they similar or 2 different product? do I need both or just pick 1? thanks in advance

Welcome "Noob DIYer pool owner".

Please put details of your pool in your signature. See What we need to know to answer your questions

Where is your fill water coming from? Have you tested it? Do you know it has metals content?

In general you don't need to use those products during a fill unless you know you have a specific problem. And if you do use them understand they don't eliminate the metals. They just precipitate them and you have to them filter them to get them out of the water.

The K2006 test kit will not test for metals in the water. In general we don't like setting foot in a pool store for testing but that is the best place to take your fill water and have them test it for metals.

Most municipal water systems now publish their water quality on the net. You should be able to find the water chemistry there. Or call the Customer Service number of your water company and ask them to send it to you.

BTW, I hope you are getting the K-2006C kit. The C is important to get more of the reagents we frequently use. See Test Kits Compared. The TF-100 Test Kits is the best value.

Welcome to the forum!
It is doubtful you have any metals in your water in Pomona, CA.

You will need additional reagents for FAS-DPD and CYA fairly quickly. See TFTestkits for refills.

I will purchase a metal tester just to make sure. If needed than I can buy something for it before filling. I appreciate all the help and quick response from everyone. I feel im going to be posting a lot of questions of here

FYI -- metal test kits are expensive. Check with a pool store first to see if they can do it. Iron and copper, if possible.
