They add metals (silver, copper, etc) to your pool water. That then make blonde hair green and eventually stain the pool surfaces.
And they do not change the level of sanitation needed in the pool water. Follow the FC/CYA Levels

It adds copper and silver to your pool because the industry is overzealous about algae growing and both inhibit it. But neither is a contact sanitizer so you need to fully sanitize the water with chlorine. If you have already sanitary water, the indistry dreaded algae can't grow. Ironically, lowering your FC allows it to grow.

It's a complex question (that's been debated heavily in past forum posts).
- It is likely to suppress algae growth (& if used correctly, one can avoid pool staining & hair discoloration),
- While it may seem, on the surface, that this product doesn't violate the TFP 'simplicity' rule because it's easy to administer (& maintain)... the fact is that metals can absolutely affect the stability of pool chemistry (measuring calcium hardness for example) therefore increase pool hygiene complexity,
- Further, the dosing, as currently designed, is inexact to say the least; you'll never know what the levels of copper (or zinc/silver) are without supplemental testing,
- It can save you money on chlorine but the unintended consequence is that many people fail to sufficiently add chlorine when they don't see algae growth; this can lead to bacterial overgrowth & an increased incidence of ear infections, etc.,
- Attached are a couple Cupric Sulphate safety sheets (TLDR: can be hazardous to health) - is it worth the risk for potentially damaging health issues?
