Pool Pump Replacement

Good evening, I need to replace my pool pump - it's been on it's last leg for a few years and I just keep repairing it. It's finally died and is beyond my ability to repair.

I'm looking for an unbiased opinion on brand name and specifications for a new pump. As I'm sure you know, when you enter a pool store they always push their partner product line so I never feel like I'm getting honest information.

My pool is approximately $14,000 gallons with a built in spa. I'm currently running a 1.5HP motor. I don't know the brand because the label is destroyed. Is this adequate HP or is it undersized? Should I consider a variable speed motor? I would like a pump that provides the best value. I'm not looking for top-of-the-line nor am I looking for the cheapest pump on the market either. Preferable a pump with a good reputation that offers good value for the price. I live in SWFL so the pump runs year round. Thank you in advance.

Your going to want a Pentair Intelliflo pump to go with the Easy Touch control.

If you want direct control of a VSP with automation, it is best to keep them all in the same brand.
You get the pump with the largest available horsepower and then turn down the rpm (which reduces the horsepower or energy usage) to just what you need to keep the pool in good condition. That's the most economical way to run a pool with a several of other benefits as well.

Run as fast as you can from ANY pump labeled with SVRS, unless you love spending large amounts of money on something that will make you regret life.

It looks like you have a SuperFlo and a SuperFlo VS will likely be an easy swap because it has the unions.

The highest flow you should need is for when you run the heat pump, which probably requires about 40 GPM and you should be able to get that at about 1,800 RPM to 2,000 RPM with the SuperFlo for about 275 to 300 watts.

You should not likely ever have to run your VSP at its maximum horsepower rating.

This is an interesting thread. @HereComesTheMoney did you end up purchasing a pump? Did you or will you install it yourself? I recently bought a house in SWFL and my pool equipment looks very similar to yours. I’m also looking for a new pump, heater, automation and filter.
