Pool pump on/off switch just broke

Hi everyone,

I just went to go turn my pool filter off and and switch would not budge. After using a lot of force to try and turn off the pump, the switch snapped and the pump stayed on and continued to run. In order for me to turn it off, I just unplugged it.

My question is: For the time being, can I just plug/unplug it to turn it on and off? Or will this cause the pump to overheat in any way and cause major problems to the motor?

I will try to replace the switch in the next couple days, but I want to be able to run the pump every day for the time being.

When the switch broke, did it expose any of the wiring or look like water could leak inside the pump? As long as just the tip of the switch is broke off and doesn't look like water could get into the wiring and short anything out, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to. When you run it again, feel the wire and around the switch area, does it feel unusually warm? Is it plugged into a GFCI? That would protect it and anything on that circuit in the event that it does short out.

lightmaster- When I say it broke, it didn't technically snap. It just doesn't have the function to click back and forth to turn on and off. It is just loose feeling now and doesn't have any functionality. Nothing has been exposed. It could just be in my head, but I ran it a bit after it broke and the motor seemed to be very hot. Maybe it was hot initially since it was just running 5 hours.

The motor's gonna get pretty hot period, but does the area around the switch itself feel hotter than the rest? If the switch isn't broken off, I'd say it should be fine to run it. No sparks flying or anything and if its running like normal, then should be fine.
