Pool pump bond/ground lug

Hi, I have a 24x24 round AGP and have a question about connecting bond and ground wire to pump lug. There's a bare copper wire already connected to the lug that's coming from the GFCI outlet box that I imagine is for grounding , but I'm planning on bonding the pool, can I connect the 8 gage bonding wire to the same lug on the pump? Thanks

Welcome to TFP.

Bonding is different then grounding and the two should not be interconnected.

Sorry, having issues uploading pics. Don't know why bare copper wire coming from the GFCI outlet box would be connected to the bond lug on the pump. Electrician said for grounding. Is that's the case, where can I close the bond for the pool?

The bond wire does not need to be terminated as long as it electrically connects all the required things.

I guess terminating was not the term to use...where do you close the bond loop after going around and bonding all the points around the pool?..how do you bond the pool pump if there aready a ground copper wire attached to the bonding lug?.. Forgive me if I'm not using the correct terms.

If the current bare wire comes from the ground terminal on the gfci to the bonding lug on the pump it needs to be disconnected on both ends & removed. The pump should have a ground wire termination on the inside for the equipment grounding conductor that is fed from the gfci protected power source just like all the other conductors feeding the pump. This is different than the bonding wire which is illustrated above. As mentioned the two are not to be connected or confused.
The yellow lines in this diagram indicate bonding wire

The electrician is confused- that is where you terminate the bond wire on your pump - it isn’t supposed to go to that gfi. See my previous post

If the wire coming out if the gfci box is just terminated to the junction box itself that the gfci is in (if it is metal) it can also be bonded to the “bonding ring” in another location using the appropriate connector. But it doesn’t belong on the pump bonding lug.

The “loop” does not need to be closed or terminated. Simply connect all the things with the bonding wire.

You remove the ground wire from the bonding lug. Bonding lugs are not used for grounding

Connect the ground wire to the proper ground points.

Thank you all. I'll get with the electrician to make the correct connections.
