Pool Panel Disconnect Switch

I have about an 80’ run from my main to the pool sub panel. I am looking to replace the basic pool panel with an Omni PL, I would also like to move the panel about 2’ farther than the current location to make it more ‘accessible’. Service is 80A to the pool (heat pump, 2 pumps, light transformer)

Since I don’t want to spend almost $1000 to buy the longer conductors, has anybody added a disconnect switch prior to the sub panel? Seems like a decent idea in general as well.

Is this something I should be looking at? Also, how do you handle the ground wire? I understand the NEC requires that to be continuous back the the main?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you are looking to use the equipment disconnect as a junction box to then extend the wires to the new subpanel location. That should work.

Can you cite the NEC paragraph about the ground wire needing to be continuous?
