I am replacing a 15x30 above ground pool - The instructions say 3" sand and additional 4" for cove at walls.
I am going to use sand and a new gorilla pad with foam cove - my old gorilla pad is still good - what do you think about placing the old pad on top of the sand and the new gorilla pad on top of that? Thoughts including explanations please.

I don’t see why not - so long as u can make the pads & cove stay in place.
Is the sand already there? Many people use the gorilla pad only in place of sand. Using a foam cove eliminates the need for a sand cove so just use the sand for the base only.

Oval pool has buttresses and steel plates inset into the ground - level with the ground - under the liner- the sand will be needed to smooth over. Mfr says 3" base and 4" cove - . I'm thinking to use the sand from the old pool, and the 2 pads to make the 3" and the cove on top of that. Installing the liner tends to put footprints in the sand - which I'm thinking will be less an issue with both pads. But I worry that once the water is in I find it could be a bad idea.

Definitely go with the sand then - since it’s an oval pool. Missed that part - low on coffee ☕️ this morning 😊
If the old pad is the correct size & in good condition it should be fine to reuse. Have u already bought the new pad? You could Try laying them both out (or doubling one over) & see if it feels like too much cushion under foot. If so just go with one.

Gonna try that - see how it feels
