I have 2 Hayward ColorLogic LPCUS11100 lights among others and I’ve had several of them go out both under warranty and out of warranty. These lights are extremely expensive and I’m thinking of changing to another type of 12 volt LED color lights that are more reliable and affordable. Any ideas?

Are those in Hayward's shallow niche? About 2"-3" deep? That limits what you can use.

Can't speak to the Hayward. But I did a 12 volt conversion using old school but robust Intermatic transformer and switch. I have a consistent and clean voltage to the pool light niche - tested numerous times. Even made up a quick test rig to power a car headlight just to see if the housing and wiring worked - it does. So far I am "three out of three" with the inexpensive lamps from Amazon - all three would not light. One from who knows who after trying two from J&J Electronics, after the first one did not work the vendor sent a replacement.

You mean 0 for 3?

Edit - I just ordered 2 R10H lights from Spa Electrics. The "H" version is used exclusively for Hayward Shallow Niche LFGUY1000.

I'm in the same boat. Be aware the colorlogic 2.0 (LPCUS22xxx) version just came out and the 1.0 (LPCUS11xxx) has been discontinued. The 2.0 may last longer and they have a plug where you can field swap a light and not have to pull cable in. These 12v lights are sometimes installed in the dreadful shallow niche LFGUY1000 that does not have any screw holes for most lights. The colorlogics effectively twist in on this niches. Its not a bad technique, actually, but the new 2.0 12v are now $1250 each!! At this price, they should be backed up with a 10 year warranty and I would go for it.

I dont think there is a specific adapter for this niche that would allow adding a screw hole, but someone should start making them! So, if you want a different lights, you either need to attempt an adapter ring the fits on the inside of niche, glue something to top inside of niche to screw into, or go nicheless and do something a bit janky like this guy did where he sliced the old color logic in half to create an effect plate for attaching a nicheless light.

Anyone have any experience with this one? It looks pretty good after reading about it. I just can’t justify spending another $1250 (2 times for 2 bad lights) after all the failures I’ve had with the Hayward lights.

That's the light I installed in my pool when I got tired of everything else getting water inside them. I am happy with the purchase primarily because it was half the cost of the mistakes I had previously been installing. I also liked that I no longer have 110vac in the pool. However, the bolts are discoloring a bit in my pool.

Thanks for the feedback! In my case, it’s actually 1/3 of the cost of the Hayward ColorLogic light (which in my opinion is priced more where it should be) plus it has an app that connects to the controller to dial in the colors and modes instead of the antiquated turning off and on the light to change modes on on the Hayward.

I would still consider the R10 (not R10H ) from spa electrics if you have a deep niche for just $130ish more than amazon light. You won't have to pull in a new cable now or whenever you need to replace it next time. It also has a 3 year warranty. The 2 year amazon seller warranty would be somewhat sketchy, imho. The R10 can also be programed to be compatible with Omnilogic light sequences. Good luck!
