As soon as practicable, strangle Froggie and get him out of the pool. TFP really does not like metals in any form in your pool and TFP hates unnecessary expense.....Froggie does both.
I have an 18 x 33 oval above ground. Hayward 23" sand filter (I use the filtra balls not sand) 1.5 hp motor. I am using the poo frog tender which was sold to me by the store. FIrst year no problems, but this year I am having a heck of a time maintaining hardness, chlorine of 0.5 ppm (which is suggested with the mineral system) but everything else is ok except now have mustard algae ..... I killed it but I am having a heck of time getting the dead off the pool floor. Just keeps settling.

Next year I am thinking to get out of the froggie system. Should I switch to sand? Is an easy switch? I want to spend time enjoying my pool not trouble shooting for the 3 months out of the year that I get to use it.

Frustrated

The Frog system is essentially expensive Trichlor tabs, and copper - you don't need any of these.

Similar to the OP in this thread, grab a test kit, some Liquid Chlorine, and you can kiss the frog goodbye - you may already have too much CYA in your pool for the chlorine to be effective (which is why you have algae) but until you get a decent test kit and can confirm, I'd add enough LC to be 5PPM a day for your pool volume.

0.5ppm chlorine is like a guaranteed algae party. You probably just have normal algae caused by lack of chlorine.
