We like modern design and want a horizontal slat fence. We can space slats 1/2” apart and we are alternating 3” wide boards with 6” wide. It’s vinyl so they are centered on the posts not placed one one side. When I read the code it says when the horizontals are closer than 48” apart they must be on the inside where the pool is I supposed so they can’t use it as a ladder on the outside to climb in but that’s on a true wood fence. On a vinyl they are centered in the post. I also read chain link is allowed if the holes are 1.5” or less so with the really tight spacing of 1/2” would it be fine? They just don’t specify a full horizontal slat fence.

This is how we want to do it, now actually sticking with all 3” horizontal slats and 1/2” spacing

Hey Liz, the local inspector gave me a packet of exactly what he wanted for the pool fence. Although I have a hammonton mailing address I'm actually in hamilton Twp, so a different construction office than yours. You have to find out what year code they are currently using as most towns dont use the most current or even 2nd most current code revision.

Btw I'm not sure if you have nailed down where your getting your fence but I got a great deal from master wire fence. They are in folsom on the black horse pike. When I spoke with them, they seemed to know what all the local towns would accept for a pool fence. Might be worth a visit.

Thank you so much, I truly appreciate it. I have to go on Tuesday and see what they say.
