Pool Factory Saltwater 8000 - experience?

For anyone who has had their Saltwater 8000 from Pool Factory for a few years now, how is it holding up? I know it's got a 60 year warranty and salt water is covered, but I was wondering if it was really safe to use a SW system with it.

Welcome Juliebean! Many members have them. I think @gwc installed one in 2014. @KarenNJ @JBSurfer @dsmith99 also installed this pool, I believe. I don't know who is still around, let's see if anyone responds. You could also start a conversation with one of them by clicking on the member listing and press "start a conversation." That would send them an email.
I know MANY other members do. Here are just a few examples I found using the search feature:

I've bought a Melenia from them and had my boss buy one as well.
I wouldn't put any faith in the warranties, read them closely. To me they're mainly a sales gimmick. After 5 years or so they're not worth the trouble and from what I understand they do everything they can to get out of them altogether.

That being said, The Pool Factory is one of the best places I've dealt with and I would buy from them again. If there's any issues they will fix them immediately and they will help you over the phone with any confusion in the instructions.

I would also buy another pool from that manufacturer. They're cheap and the instructions are terrible but they get the job done.

I just noticed I didn't really answer your question.

I've seen it mentioned on here quite a few times that the salt level in a salt water pool isn't much higher than a normal pool and that it doesn't actually matter. They say that as long as you keep your pH in check there will not be any issues.

I have no idea if that's true, but it seems reasonable.
I'd have no hesitation about using a salt water generator with my Melenia and that's not even sold as a salt water pool. Don't let the skimmer or return leak and keep your pH between 7.4-7.6 and it should be fine.

Hey Julie !!! Long story short, most of what you will add to your pool is *a* salt. Bleach, baking soda and calcium for example. Many will break down to *the* salt, but the ones that don't are just as corrosive, or corrosive to certain metals. Baking soda for example is corrosive to aluminum, zinc and brass at 35% solution. But. Here's the great part. You won't hit any of the levels needed to worry about the additions. But part 2. The funny thing is because of things like bleach breaking down into *the* salt, chlorine dosed pools will get close or equal in content to 'salt pools' over time.

In a perfect world, the liner stops any pool water from touching the rest of the pool and they will never meet anyway. If a slow leak happens, the moisture and/or water will be your downfall, not any of the chemicals you added that are still below the threshold for corrosive properties.

So that's my salt argument, and I'm all for it. I am also all for any of the 'saltwater pools' I have seen as they have more, or all resin which will be found by archeologists one day. Maybe a different part fails, like the liner. Maybe a different part rusts, like the aluminum walls on a mostly resin pool. But the resin parts won't be a worry.

We have one. 24 ft round. Pool factory was solid. (pre-covid).

Pool has held up well/ half buried

Top rails are kinda loosey goosey

Seen nicer pools / seen worse.. no issues with salt would never go back to actual bottled chlorine

Do yourself a favor and get a nice liner with a pattern you like

I personally ignored the pattern and went with the thickest liner The Pool Factory had, which they call a 40 gauge. It measures roughly 0.019" thick. So, "19 mil"
I think there's only one pattern in that thickness.

Hey @kennywayne34 - I'm deeply considering the 5000 vs 8000 pools - on the 8000 by "kinda loosey goosey" what do you mean? Were they a difficult install or since completed the pool the railings are still a little loose all around?

Also - would you still recommend doing a half bury on the pool now that it's been a few more months? We are also going to do a semi inground (chlorine only) and would like to hear more about your experiences. If you have a thread from the past on the build project, I'd appreciate if you could guide me to it.

Thanks!

DC

Hey DC,

Did you ever decide on the 5000 vs. 8000?

For what its worth, our pool was not marketed specifically to be used with salt and the SWCG was put into service in 2006. The only rust we experienced was some of the steel top stabilizer rim rails, a bit on some rails and some of the top connector plates on the uprights. No rust whatsoever on the uprights or walls or anywhere else. Our previous round pool had NO salt in it (other than chemicals containing "a" salt) and we did have a rusty wall issue with that pool where it met the bottom rails and rusted top plates, stabilizer rails. So it's a Crud shoot maybe? We did use wall foam on our current model.
