Pool deck patching and expansion joints

I am trying to find ideas to patch the pool decking and replacing the joint boards (not sure what was originally used).

1. The decking patch, I was thinking about wetting the area, mixing some bag concrete spreading it around, and pushing in some pea gravel. Redoing the whole deck is not on the table at this point.

2. The joints not sure exactly what was originally used. I was thinking about cedar strips 1"x2". The gap is about 3/4". Searching it seems options are to use a backer rod and Sikaflex sealant or the likes, or the poly push in filler that comes rolls (Trim-A-Slab), but that is more than we can spend at this time.

Welcome to TFP.

Concrete or pea gravel will compromise the function of the joints.

The joints are probably too small to stuff backer rod in. Sikaflex on top is not going to look good.

I would leave it as is and not open up a can of worms.

@mknauss, sorry about that, Thank you.

@ajw22, if I understand correctly, I am not filling the joints with concrete/pea gravel. Just need to address the surface decking. There are a few other areas that are not next to a joint.

I wonder if anyone has tried the gravel/resin mixture to patch the spots.
