Pool covers in the winter

This will be my 3rd NE Indiana pool closing season and for the past 2 season I have covered my pool with a tarp and lost sleep every time the wind blew! Last year I gave up about February/March and just took the cover off. Opened the pool with clear water.

My question is this: I would like to keep it uncovered for the winter - do I need to do any checks throughout the winter for anything other than algae? I have very few trees and really it stays clean all year.

I would appreciate any guidance - thank you in advance.

Once you perform your pre-closing tasks and the pool water temps drop, there is nothing else you should have to do. Let it freeze and go to sleep until spring. You're not the only owner who said a cover isn't worth the hassle. :brickwall: Enjoy the winter break.

Once closed there is minimal that needs to be done or worry about. Pump excess water off the tarp/cover if it's more than few inches of water. Remove sticks or excess leaves that are on it. As long as the entire perimeter covered with water bag the cover does not blow around or really have a risk of blowing off. If you have any concern leave some water on the tarp/cover. The only thing to pay attention to is to make sure the water in the pool does not drop (leak out) and the cover get pulled in or rips.
