Pool Backyard Layout

We are in the beginning design stages of building a pool. We have a large back yard and 5 kids that run our our back door to get to a playground and the grass area to play. We do live in an area that requires a 48 foot fence enclosing the area where the pool is located. We would need to install a fence directly around the pool or around out entire yard (very expensive).

The pool designers do not seem to give much thought to backyard traffic flow or the visual appeal of the fence and access to the yard from the deck. The deck can be modified if necessary.

Any advice?

Welcome to TFP.

We do live in an area that requires a 48 foot fence enclosing the area where the pool is located.

Most areas require a minimum 4 foot (48 inch) fence around the pool for safety.

In some areas an automatic cover may be used instead of a fence.

The pool designers do not seem to give much thought to backyard traffic flow or the visual appeal of the fence and access to the yard from the deck. The deck can be modified if necessary.

Siting a pool is often limited by property setback requirements, easements, or the location of septic systems. Do you have a property survey to share showing the allowable area for a pool?

I would fence just the pool area. That would allow the kids to play in the rest of the yard relatively unsupervised.
As ajw said in some areas an auto cover can substitute for a fence (but for real protection it does need to be closed when the pool is not in use). I'm a fan of auto covers because the keep the pool significantly warmer and cleaner in addition to the added layer of safety. But I will concede they are a significant expense.
