Two of my jets, plus the main return, became unplugged at some point during the last 6 weeks. The water level came up to the level of the plugs and then above it. The layer of ice at the top was pretty solid (at least 1-2 inches) and it seems to have push off the rubber plugs, which fell to the bottom. I drained the level back down earlier today but I am wondering what to do next? Should I just insert new plugs of should I be concerned about a need to blow the lines again (which will not be easy as its an ice mess out there). I do have extra plugs. On the good side, the lines were blown bone dry to start the winter. Some water may have gotten in, but not a lot. I can post photos tomorrow if helpful.

The pipes need to be blown again.

Use threaded plugs from here on out that won't get popped out by the ice. Did you save the ones they used when you replastered ?

If not they are dirt cheap on Amazon, a 6 pack for $10

I should have used a threaded plug on the return. But the jets cannot be capped with threaded plug because there are no threads. I have long tubes that do screw in and those have threads at the ends, but I was told to remove them for the winter. That leaves me with the flat opening in these photos. Also, I have many inches of clearing now between the ice and the open holes. Should I prioritize blowing out today (its already below freezing again can it wait 10 days for me to get back from a trip?

Ok it is what it is for that one.

It would have taken seconds to fill the plumbing, while the pipe now looks empty

Maybe get something bendable through the first 90 and prove if it's wet/frozen past that. If you get a couple feet in there and it comes out dry, you're fine to cap and walk away.

If it's frozen it won't blow, leave it open.

If it's wet, blow it.

Kind of shocking to me how much water I blew out of the jets just using the attached air blower. I suppose I should reblog the capped tubes too since it all connects. I still need to do the return. That one is a bit harder because it requires the portable blower (nothing still connected during winter) but based on how much water came out of the jets, seems important.

One other thing noticed is that my pool steps cracked. This used to happen frequently before I refinished the pool. No cracks the last few very mild winters. But this year it looks bad. I think the repair people keep fixing with diamondbrite but it always lives as a patch. I cannot keep this wet in the winter because I need to pump water level below steps. But it goes up with the weather/rain/snow. Any suggestions of best solution? (I realize off topic but was reluctant to start a new thread)

Winter finally showed up this year.

A solid cover, or pay closer attention to it draining a little bit weekly / as needed.

Lets call in @ajw22 too.

A solid cover,

Even with a solid cover water will drain into the pool from the sides.

or pay closer attention to it draining a little bit weekly / as needed.
With that pool and the step with cracks, it has to be kept as dry as possible before any freezing conditions.
