I think I can answer my own question (which would be: buy a new salt cell) but I'm hoping there might be another answer to my problem.

The output display is blank, the flow light is solid green the cell light is off and the salt light is flashing red. What really surprises me is that the chlorine is off the charts.. (See attached photos) Salinity is also a little high at 3900 ppm (my fault)

We have owned the home for about a year and a half and this is my first saltwater pool. I took the cell off today and it desperately needs cleaning (large chunks of calcium on the fins). The fact that I couldn't find an acid washing kit in the garage tells me that the previous owner never cleaned it. I have one arriving tomorrow.

Am I delusional thinking that cleaning it could restore the proper function? The excess chlorine makes he think that it has gone completely haywire, although the cover might have also contributed to it.

Any thoughts?

Welcome to TFP.

The iChlor is low quality and has nothing serviceable other then the flow switch. When it fails it is disposable.

You can try whatever and see if you can get it back to life.

Any acid washing will reduce the life of the cell

Check your water chemistry and CSI. With proper water chemistry a SWG cell should never need cleaning.
