Self-Cleaning
The self-cleaning feature reduces scale buildup on the blades of the IntelliChlor SCG. The self-cleaning cycle tends to reduce the life of the IntelliChlor SCG, therefore, it should be used only to the extent necessary to minimize the scale buildup on the blades. It is factory set to two (2) hours for the first 30 days of operation, then automatically switches to three (3) hours.

I just found this in a Pentair IntelliChlor manual. It reads "self-cleaning cycle tends to reduce the life of the IntelliChlor" and it implies that this is somehow user selectable ("should be used only to the extent necessary").

Does this mean that if we achieve no calcium build up on the plates due to perfect TFP water, that we should somehow turn off the Self-Cleaning cycle?

Has anyone done this? Or know how to do it?

Would you if you could?

You can’t turn it off but I believe you can adjust the switching time to either 2- , 3- , or 4- hours.

Just leave it where it is - knock-on-wood my system is going on 5 years and still fully operational. I’ve never changed the default. Any change in lifetime is minuscule at best.

If you keep your CSI slightly negative, then scaling should be a non-issue. Borates will also help to reduce the possibility of scale but they are optional.

I'm shooting for around -0.2, to allow for some natural slip due to my temperature swing (between night and day), which might take it from -0.1 to -0.3.
