We had pool installed in 2019 and never had an issues with system. I noticed the pool was getting unusally dirty. I noticed that the filter/core combo wasn't staying seated when I removed the cover. I thought it was the core as one of the pieces/engagers that hold the base to tube broke off, so I bought a new core. That didn't solve the issue. There seems to be more a litttle more play(movement at the top when core and filter are inserted). Pool service company thought that the air release wasn't line up the bleed portion of the core and assumed it was solved. But I removed the top(attacched pic) the filter/core are not seated and not correctly line up to filter properly. Has anyone seen this before? Thinking I may need to replace the bottom of the tank to get better fit with core/tank?IMG_6973.JPG

One reason that your filter isn't working well is that the "sock" that is supposed to go over the air-relief tube is missing, at least in the picture. That leaves a hole about 1/4" in the filter that a lot of dirt can get through.

I do have the replacement for the sock that I needs to put on. Any ideas why the core/filter won't stay seated? The filter should be much dirtier given the state of the water, so I think that most of the water isn't getting filtered.

What does it do if you try to just insert the core without the cartridge? I have seen a locking tab that holds the core together get stuck in the bottom and it took removing the plumbing a turning the tank upside down to get it out.

As poolman said, you should remove the filter from the core and try putting just the core back in. The locking mechanism is very delicate and easy to misalign. You/your pool guy should be shoving your fingers into the pleats and using your thumbs pressed onto the core, to pull the filter off while the core stays inside your enclosure without moving.

If it's really jammed, we've seen them collapse inward like a submarine under pressure and create perforations in the filter that essentially lock it in place.

That's how I have removed the filter from the core in the past and yes I have placed the core in by itself. It drops in, but its not as stable as I remember. Could it be something in the base of filter unit locking mechanism that's not holding the core in place?
