Hello everyone, anyone familiar with the venturi skimmer?

I did a backwash and closed off the valve to the venturi before I add DE to the skimmer but there was no suction to either of the skimmer. Am I missing something? Below are pics of the equipment. Thanks in advance!

A,

I don't see anything obvious...

Have you done this before and it worked, or is this the first-time adding DE??

Do you have a good strong flow of water out of your pool returns?

What speed is your pump running? At a low RPM there will not be a lot of surface action to see, so it might appear as if there is no suction.

When adding DE you need to have the pump running at a good clip.

Are you just dumping dry DE into the skimmer? If so, it works much better if you add the DE to a five-gallon bucket and then fill the bucket with water. Stir it up into a slurry and then pour it into the skimmer.

Thanks,

Jim R.

First time adding de but according to owner that's where the previous company add de.

Rpm was set to max and de was mixed with water in a chem bucket before I add to skimmer.

Fixing to stop by today and check if there's anything I missed.

Thanks for the pictures. The valves to the skimmers are OPEN in the picture. Is this the position you say there is no suction when the pump is running?

Hmm weird. Went by 10 mins ago. Did another bw. Same thing I did yesterday. Closed both venturi valve and main drain and there's suction in both skimmer.

No idea what's going on!

Normal filter pressure after filter clean, 22 psi. When I did the bw yesterday it was 25 psi. Good flow from all the jets in the pool.

So you should not close both skimmer valves and the main drain valve unless there the SPA main drain is open. Maybe I don't understand what you have done. Maybe a picture of how you have both valves and main drain closed.

Both venturi valves were closed(2nd pic, 2 valves on left closed). Main drain closed on suction line. Hope that makes sense.

The 2-way valves labeled FAR VENTURI and NEAR VENTURI are returns that send water TO the skimmer to make the venturi function work.
The 2-way valves labeled FAR SKIMMER and NEAR SKIMMER are suction lines suck water FROM the skimmer and are connected to the suction side of the pump.

To add DE and have it not go into the pool thru the venturi and directly into the pool, close both FAR VENTURI and NEAR VENTURI. based on which skimmer you choose to add DE to, close the other SKIMMER valve and the MAIN DRAIN valve. This will limit all suction to the open SKIMMER valve. When done adding DE, set all valves back to the desired positions.
