Painting rusted motor casing

Hello,

My pool pump motor casing is rusted as shown in picture.
Can I paint casing to avoid further rusting and improve appearance?
Do I need to use special paint?

Use a rust converter first, then paint with an exterior paint. Preserve the label....the information might come in handy.

Ditto everything Vickery said!!! As far as preserving the label, I whole heartedly agree! You might even take a close up picture of it beforehand and file it with other pool info.
