Outdoor pavilion lights

Hi everyone! I am in the process of our first pool/outdoor pavilion with bar build. We're going with a 14 X 18 pavilion- and we're installing a ceiling fan with a light on it - but I'm not sure if it will be enough light. The ceiling that the pavilion has is basically like exposed rafters of sorts - I've attached a picture of it - but it will be stained a walnut color. That being said, with that ceiling I can't really add in recessed lighting. It's an Amish built pavilion- and to add in a "ceiling" is priced really high (I don't think they do it that often) and I'd have to have an electrician there the same build day to install the recessed lights around it. It would end up costing close to 3k which seems really high.

That all being said- does anyone have any type of outdoor pavilion that has a similar ceiling and if so what did you do about lights? Thank you in advance for your help!!!!

I bought this ceiling fan based on someone in this forum having it on their pergola. Which it sounds like you are building. It is a 14 watt LED light which is really bright.

The other option is hook up some LED light strips to the rafters and you can get very bright with those. You can get those in different colors too.

Thank you!! I needed a good fan option! I just wanted to make sure that there's enough light inside the pavilion at night. 3k for a 'cedar' ceiling (the color that the amish company I'm using has for the cedar is not really the typical cedar color I'd expect or like) and some recessed lights that I'll have to jump through hoops to have my electrician there at the right time seems just not worth it. I finally got the picture to attach to show the ceiling of the pavilion.

As long as you have power going to it there are a bunch of things you can do with LED light strips if the fan lighting is not enough. You can run some up and down the columns. You can run some along some or all the rafters. Lots of options.

We will have power, so that sounds good! It's hard because I can't find any pictures so I figured I'd ask for help!

I have a similar pavilion, except mine is 24x12. I put a fan with light at each end, then added string lights around the inside. The string lights provide mood lighting and the fan lights provide enough direct light to cook, find lost stuff, etc.

Your pavilion is beautiful!!! I absolutely love it! This is great to know- I wanted to make sure there's enough light to cook etc!
