One suction skimmer sucking air

Greetings,
I have a pool with two skimmers. They join together into one line. One of the skimmers sucks air. Therefore, I have to shut the valve to that skimmer for the pump to prime and maintain. If I try and open that one skimmer valve, the pump sucks air.

I’m confused where it would come from Since the skimmers merge together into one.

It is skimmer number two. I have vacuumed the pool recently, but the is skimmer number one.

Any suggestions?

Fishy,

It appears to me that you have two skimmers and they are both individually plumbed back to your equipment pad...

or... Do you mean that the two skimmers connect together at the pad??? If so, that is true.. But, the reason that you can shut off one of the skimmer is that each skimmer has an individual pipe going from the equipment pad and back to the skimmer.

Go look at the 'bad' skimmer and see if the weir door is stuck up.. That is the most likely problem.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Fishy,

Weir doors often intermittently stick up..

Could be broken, or just dirt getting trapped at the sides, etc...

You should be able to easily move it up and down with no sticking..

But, at least you now now what to look for the next time the skimmer starts sucking air...

Thanks,

Jim R.
