Oh my god, the spiders. How do you keep them at bay?

We've had the house 3 years now so I am "use" to the spiders outback, but this year seems worse than EVER. Especially in the evenings. Went for a swim last night - and tonight - and was constantly swimming away from spiders and avoiding the edges because of spiders! Lots of them were full of eggs, too, and it was just UGH! :drown:

Brand new fill water (just replaced liner) and my chemistry is fine, I am pretty sure it is just my area and the time of year/heat. I have already sworn off the skimmer for the year, that is strictly husband's duty.

Is there anything I can do to try and deter them from the pool?
We even netted a tarantula out the other week...

Oddly enough, these bother me less than the little ones...

We get lots of spiders in the pool as well. During the day, they hide in the skimmers. At night, they are all over the pool. I use to scoop them out before getting in at night, but often they just jump back in. I’ve pretty much given up on night swimming.

The worst one are the wolf spiders with hundreds of babies covering their back! I smacked one once while in the pool and the babies scattered all over me!! 😱 I didn’t know I could scream that high and loud! 😆

I don’t want to spray chemicals everywhere that kills indiscriminately, and spiders do help keep other pests under control, so I just let them have the pool at night, lol.

I replaced the skimmer baskets with ones with handles above the water level. Of course the spiders climb up on the handles when they get in the skimmers. But at least I can see them and knock the off before grabbing the handle. Before with the old baskets, you never knew what you were sticking your hand into. 😱

Definitely don't want to kill the bees!! Heck, I don't even want to kill the spiders. I would love if there was just something to deter them, lol. In the house, we just relocate all spiders...unless it is a brown recluse. Being a type 1 diabetic, getting bitten by one of those could be deadly, so unfortunately we squash them. Everything else, including horrifying wolf (but harmless!) spiders as big as the hand... relocate!

We used to get spiders regularly and the occasional scorpion in our pool too, we hired a supposedly eco-friendly pest control service and have have few issues since.

I love my spiders and rescue them when I can out of the skimmers. These skimmer basket replacement handles have been SO GREAT, because I don't like sticking my hands down into a messy basket without knowing what is dead/lurking in there lol.
