I've just bought an Intex 12 x 30 metal frame pool and want to get a pump/filter that will actually keep it clean. I'm getting confused reading a bunch of posts...Do I need a new pump and a new filter? Do they come together? I'm clueless! I've looked at both saltwater system and sand pump, but still don't know what I need. Do I need both? Can anyone make some specific suggestions for a newbie? Also, read that I'd need new fittings, is this correct? And do they come separate? Thanks

Hi! Yeah the pump and filter can be a little on the small side. I would just use them for a little while and see how it goes. If you find they are not working for you then you can do a search in the white box at the top of this page to see what others have done.

Do you have a test kit yet? THAT is the number one thing to get to keep your pool looking good and free of algae. Look in my siggy below to see the one I think is the best bang for the buck.

While those little pumps will work you pretty much need to run them for 8 hours a day or more to circulate and clean the water. You can get smaller intex sand filter setups fairly cheap and they work good. I run mine for about 2 hours a day and my pool is cleaner that it has been for the past several years. Best part of a sand filter is if you change pools you can keep the sand filter..
