New hot tub, conflicting water testing results.

Hello, we just purchased a floor model Jacuzzi J-485 that was in use at the store about a year. The company started it up for us and I unfortunately wasn't able to pay attention to it for a couple days, and about 4 days after we had it, it got cloudy and had some build up at the water line. Chlorine was high, combined chlorine was high, pH was 8.2, everything was out of whack. I did all the adjustments I thought I needed according to everything I have read on here. Used MPS (called Lesiure Time Renew) to try to get rid of the CC's. Water looks way better, very slightly cloudy, questionable green tinge.

Anyway, trying to right this ship, here are my test results as of now:

TF-100 results (range, bc I did tests several times):

FC: 18-22. It took a ton of drops, and finally started turning orange and then to a faint yellow.
CC: 3-5
CH: 50
TA: 110-120
CYA: 40

K1004 results:
pH 7.5
FC 3
TC off the charts maroon.

Strip results:
pH 7.2-7.8
FC 3
TA 120-180
CYA: 30-50

Any reason my FC varies wildly between my TF100 test and the other two? Using this helpful sticky post, first thing looks to be to add calcium chloride to get my CH up. Please help me whip this into shape. If you all think I just need to start from scratch, I'm willing to do that as well.

I have successfully used TFP on my swimming pool with no issues whatsoever.

Thanks in advance!

The variances in the FC are tremendous. We'll come back to that. But first & foremost, if that tub was on the showroom floor for a year, if you've never done an Ahh-Some treatment, I would do that first before wasting any more chemicals. Get that tub and plumbing purged properly so you have a clean slate to work with. See Ahh-some treatment.

From there, the link you listed above to chlorinate your spa should work fine.

For the FC testing, you can simply ignore the strips. No one here will give those any validation. :poke: But a basic OTO should show a reasonable FC level. If it was as high as you say, it would look deep orange or brown. For the TF-100's FAS-DPD test, make sure you are using the 10 ml water sample size w/ one generous scoop of powder. Add drops until clear and divide that result in half. Example: 20 drops equals an FC of 10.

Hope that helps.
