Houston/TX
I’ve been reading the forum for a while now getting ready for our new home construction with pool in Houston. I’d love to get thoughts on the setup from the group!

-36’x16’ rectangular gunite pool with 8x8 spa (should we go 7x8 so it divides the pool evenly with the one foot beam, picture below)
-3.5’ to 6’ depth
-3 sheer waterfalls in 18” raised wall
-8’x6’ shelf with three bubblers
-Sunstone quartz finish
-Porcelain coping
-Pentair Intelliflow VS pump for pool/spa
-Pentair Intelliflow VS pump for bubblers (my request so I can vary height of bubblers for kids to play in, overkill?)
-2hp pentair for waterfalls (I could put both on the vs with a valve, but couldn’t control as much with the phone)
-pentair 520 filter
-1hp spa blower
-Polaris 280 cleaner with Pentair 3/4hp booster (will have plug near pool in Case we end up going robot, I know they clean better, but more work taking in and out of pool right?)
-400k btu low nox mastertemp heater
-pentair ic60 swgc (oversized per forum comments)
-pentair easytouch 8
-pentair screenlogic
-paramount automatic pool filler
-8 pool returns
-2 pentair led color lights pool 1 spa
-2 skimmers
-Paramount uv and ozone (my choice, builder says it’s up to me and didn’t push for it, sounds like maybe unnecessary?)

Picture below, would love your thoughts!!

Jay

Jay,

If you have been here for a while you already know what I'm going to say... :)

Dump the UV and Ozone... It will do nothing to help you and only confuse things in the future when you are trying to maintain your chemicals.

Dump the pressure side cleaner.. Look carefully at your rendering... Notice you don't see some giant ugly piece of stuff in your pool 24/7.. Not only does a robot do a better job, it eliminates an additional pump and plumbing and you only need to put a robot in your pool when you need it.. I only use mine maybe twice a week in the summer. They are very easy to put in and out of the pool, unlike a pressure cleaner..

Not sure about the 2 HP pump for your waterfall wall.. Keep in mind that most waterfalls are very noisy and that the fun soon wears off...

I believe the EasyTouch and ScreenLogic will work just fine, but you should be aware of the new IntelliCenter which has all the EasyTouch function plus a lot more. It would certainly be worth a look and there is very little price difference.

As always, it is your pool, so whatever you decide works just fine with me..

Thanks,

Jim R.

My pool came with the Polaris, I guess I could have fought to have them take it off, but it was "standard." Anyway the one plus of the polaris is having it in the automation. So far Ive only been a pool owner in the winter, but is nice to just push a button to clean the leaves after the cold fronts. I like it now, but may hate the polaris in the summer when we swim.

I have the Pentair Racer and it works great. Zero issues and it cleans great. I think it’s a matter of preference. As you say I like the fact it runs off my Easy Touch and I have it run twice a day and don’t even think about it. I have a lot of small leaves that seem to get on the bottom. When I don’t want it in the pool it takes 10 seconds to pull it out of the pool. However i also had an outlet put on for a robot if I do choose to change. I’m just not a fan of storing my cleaner when I’m not using it then having to put it in the pool when I do. My two cents. Everybody is different of course. My warranty is for three years. If it breaks they can come fix it.

You have a simple pool and I don't see why you need the second pump. An automated valve for the water feature would be much less expensive and all of it can be controlled through your phone via ScreenLogic

8 returns is crazy for that pool
