New cyclone skimmer basket

Hi, I purchased a new skimmer basket, and it is supposed to increase the suction to keep the surface cleaner. It also states I may need to remove my weir door? I installed the basket, and it increases the suction so much that it draws in air. It does look to work properly the door does need to come off to get the extra water in.
Has anyone ever heard of having to do this?

It is actually impossible for it to increase suction unless it can defy the laws of physics.

What these devices do is to narrow the inlet channel for the water which has a side effect of increasing the velocity of the water right at the device ie. inside the skimmer box area..

If you look carefully at the pool side of your skimmer entry there is actually no change to the water flow into the skimmer.

So how will it keep your pool water surface cleaner if the flow into the skimmer itself is unaffected...?

You will probably end up having more problems with debri on the surface if you remove your skimmer's weir door unless you run the pump 24/7.
