Need help removing X10 modules and replacing with switches

Hello TFP,

So the X10 RF modules went out and it's too costly to replace the parts (actuators went out, modules went out, and remote went out). I would like to replace this with single pole switches, but require some assistance.

I don't really understand how the black relays in he middle work. It looks like that the yellow is hot? White is neutral? Black is live (haven't tested with meter yet)?

The first 3 sets of wires next to the neutral bus bar (white/black/red) is for the valve actuator (which I pulled). The right set of red/blue is for the heater. I don't know what the 4 red/4black wires are in the middle yet.

Can I just pull these relays and use the wiring to connect them to single pole switches switches? I'm looking to finally being able to turn on my lights, one should be the pool and the other for the spa. Also, being able to turn on the air blower motor.

Thanks in advance.

I assume that all the modules are plugged into single receptacles. Given that there are a couple of ways to go about installing switches in place of the appliance modules.
1) Rip all the modules and relays out and replace them with switches. However if a set of those wires go to a high load device (i.e. Pump, swcg, etc.) then you need a relay between the switch and device.
2) Just replace the appliance modules with switches.

Can you see if you can take a little clearer picture of the wiring and relays?
As you guessed, the white wire that's jumped to all the relays is the neutral wire.
Looks like the left relay isn't hooked to 120 volts like the rest of them. That makes sense since you said that it was the valve actuator, those are 24 vac.
The wire from each module to the relays are switched through the appliance modules to pull the relays in.
Looks like there was a second appliance module that's missing now. Do you know what it was for?

As I said, see if you can get a better pic or several and we should be able to help you figure this out.

Hi Bama,

Thanks for your reply! I'll take clearer pictures Wednesday night when I get home.

I really wish I knew which appliance module is missing. I remember the remote control had labels for spa light, pool light, bubbles, pool, heater, spa.

I'm assuming pool and spa were to control the valve actuators. Possibly the pool/spa buttons also controlled the heater to turn on the pool/spa setting?

I was planning on replacing the appliance modules with switches. Can I just wire the red/black connects of the relay to a switch? I'd imagine that the appliance modules act like a switch, but I'd have to make sure that the relays are on though...don't relays also have fuses in them?

You could tie the neutral directly to the incoming neutral and then tie the incoming hot to the switches and then hook each wire that's plugged into the bottom of each appliance module to the remaining terminal of each switch and it should work.
