Natural Spa products????

No, just NO. There is so much wrong with this. I will start the list with this:

"Our unique formula of natural enzymes, minerals, and plant extracts worked perfectly!" We have several threads about the harm minerals can have long term to pools and the people using them.

I will come back when I have more time. I am also going to ask our chemical guy to take this one on. He will have fun with this one.

These lines (buried deep, deep, deep in their website and in the fine print) says all you need to know about it (emphasis added)-

* Clarity's Natural Spa is not a sanitizer, biocide, or pesticide. The EPA will only register a product as a sanitizer, biocide or pesticide if it contains an "active ingredient" that is instantly toxic or deadly to animals and/or plants. Clarity's Natural Spa and Mineral Spa do not contain any "active ingredient" listed by the EPA, OSHA, or the NSF. Therefore the product can not be registered as a pesticide, algaecide, or biocide.

Clarity's Natural Spa does not contain any "active ingredient" listed by the EPA, OSHA, or the NSF. Therefore the product can not be registered as a pesticide, algaecide, or biocide. The enzyme formula is 100% safe, non-toxic, and contains all natural ingredients. The formula works in synergy with the physical elements in the spa to improve efficiency, break down organic contaminants, and help produce a healthier, more desirable environment, i.e. free of chemical irritants, with softer, clearer, more comfortable water.

Clarity's Natural Spa can not claim to "reduce, inhibit, mitigate, destroy or abate any pests", (plants, animals or bacteria) "either by itself or in combination with any other substance" (the EPA definition of a pesticide). The EPA does not allow any product not registered as a pesticide to make this claim, under penalty of civil prosecution.

I have not looked over their "product list" much, but I do see in their image that they sell you a bag of non-chlorine shock (potassium monopersulfate). So, if these products do anything at all (and I doubt all of their claims of efficacy), then they might help to eliminate *some* bather waste. Guess what - use of chlorine or bromine will eliminate bather waste too and do so more effectively than non-chlorine shock and/or "magical enzymes". By their own admission (legally enforced by Federal Regulations to protect consumers from scams), their product does not contain any form of sanitizer. This means that, if you exclusively use their products, your hot tub water will likely become colonized with bacteria, the very least of which would be the bacteria that causes hot-tub rash.

As for enzymes and minerals, who knows if their claims are true or not true as there is no officially sanctioned test method for those types of additives. As long as they make the above statements, then they are not required to post any kind of efficacy data as they are not claiming that their product does anything useful. Their website is just one long list of pseudo-scientific sounding gobbledy-gook. They even claim that their "enzymes" are "magnetic" and that causes them to attract contaminants to them....total BS. That's not at all how enzymes work. But hey, they're technically not selling you anything that's real so why should they bother to write stuff that is based in reality. They could just as easily say that their products contain magic fairies that swim in your spa at night when you're not looking to help clean up the water.

Also, the fact that their entire marketing approach is to use scare words (like "toxic" and "poisonous") to try to get you to buy their nonsense tells you all you need to know. Why don't they just break out the old nonsense about chlorine gas being used in trench warfare in World War I to kill people as "proof"....PROOF!!...that chlorine is bad for you....(fyi, chlorine gas was NOT used in WWI as it was found to be too ineffective and difficult to deploy as a weapon. But, then again, these guys are never interested in facts, juts telling people stuff).

If you want a fact-based process for taking care of your hot tub, follow one of these approaches -

How do I use Chlorine in my Spa (or pool)?

OR

How do I use Bromine in my spa (or pool)?

It is essential to use a sanitizer in your hot tub. Chlorine is the best option. I've been using the chlorine based method Matt linked above for many years and it works great.

Has anyone ever purchased the Natural Spa products/ Clarity Water products and used them?
They are supposed to be a more natural, longer lasting chemical alternative for hot tubs.
Here is the site if you are not sure...
