Muriatic acids vs hydrochloric acid?

Hi

I just received my order of muriatic acid and its labelled as hydrochloric acid. I know they are essentially the same thing, with muriatic having high baume rating due to impurities, but can I safely use hydrochloric in my hot tub to lower ph/ta?

My ta is very high hence why I ordered the liquid acid. Using dry acid is costing a fortune.

This hydrochloric acid is labelled as "Hydrochloric Acid 36". I assume the 36 means 36%. The PoolMath calculator doesn't go up to this strength. Is this safe to use?

Thanks
Lee

Yes exactly the same
My hydrochloric acid is 36% and I use 34.6%
Not a lot of difference and you can always put in a bit less
Be careful as it lowers pH as well, best to concentrate on lowering pH and then aerating to raise the pH until you have the right numbers
