Multiport valve leaking from the top handle stem

This valve has been leaking for a while. I replace the spider gasket and the O-ring on the stem and put it back together however it’s still leaking out of the top. I’ve taken it apart three or four times and try to put the top on using an alternate pattern to tighten the screws. No matter what I do the valve leaks out of the top. Any ideas?

Likely, either the stem or lid is worn. Hopefully the lid isn't cracked.
You can remove the lid, then stem, remove the O ring, clean the stem and socket. Put a bit of lube on the stem, then the O ring, then a bit more lube. Wrap one or two layers of Teflon tape around the O ring and reassemble. Might solve the problem.

I had that problem as it was the O ring. Replaced it using a bit of silicone lube on anything rubber to help it seal. Did you lube that O ring when you replaced it? You might want to take it apart and have an exploded diagram printed out or pulled up so you know you have the parts in the right order. Mine was on a hayward and I seem to remember there were washers in there. Not sure exactly how your assembly would be on the DE filter. Might have something out of order.

The problem could be that the "Top Vave Cover" part has some wear on the sealing surface, the inner circomference area where the Diverter Shaft O-Rings seal against the surface to prevent water leakage at the top Handle area.

I have a Pentair MP Valve 261152 with a Top Valve Cover 271169 . I had to replace it a few years ago for the same issue as you're seeing with your valve. I Inspected the inner sealing surface of the Top Valve Cover P/N 271169 . I noticed some wear markings on the inner circumference where the Diffuser Shaft O-rings seal against the Valve Cover.
Assuming that the Diverter Shaft & O-Rings are ok (no excessive wear in the Shaft O-Ring Channels, etc), I'd check or replace the Top Valve Cover.

Here's a couple of threads where I posted about this issue in the past that may help. A couple of the images I posted in these thread have expired (no longer available).

Thanks for the insight everyone. I did replace the o-ring on the stem, cleaned up the surfaces, lubed everything and reassembled. I also replaced the spring just in case it was weak. I still get a dribble of water out of the top. Sounds like I may need a new top. Wondering if the best bet is to get a whole top assembly. Honestly, I considered cutting it out and replacing it with a three way diverter because I never backwash, I only use it to dump the pool after heavy rains fill the pool.

I may try the teflon tape trick first.

Mine is the Pentair 27-2101 valve btw.

Teflon tape - cheap, plus labor. Lid assembly - not cheap, plus slightly less labor.
