I need to buy something to clean my hot tub. It has occasional small bits of dirt or sand that settle to the bottom and which don't get swept up in the current towards the filter. I can't easily sweep these bits up in my pool net.

I've searched these forums and haven't been able to find anything that seems universally (or nearly universally) loved other than the PoolBlaster Pro. The PoolBlaster Pro is $200 though! Searching for other products online or on Amazon, it seems like at least 10% of reviews suggest that whatever I'll buy will break within a year. I can't believe I can't find something dead simple that isn't junk, but maybe my searching skills are just bad.

If I have to spend $200 to get a product that is any good, I will. But... the PoolBlaster Pro seems like such overkill. Has anyone found something they've been happy with from year-to-year for light cleaning in a hot tub?

Try this from Leslie's Pool supply. Labeled Jacuzzi, but originally made by Polaris. It is truly manual. Place the nozzle near the dirt and pull the handle. The water will run back to the spa while an internal screen traps the debris.. What they don't tell you is that you need to store it out of the Sun so the tube doesn't deteriorate.

@kimkats always goes super wallet friendly recommending a turkey baster.

The one poolman posted above looks sweet and seems like you could get more gunk per shot if need be.

I use the turkey baster ($tree) and my rolachem scum bug (weird sponge that looks like a bug) to just grab any stuff that can’t be scooped with my fish tank dipper net. I do have an Intex cordless vac but I rarely need to use it in my tub.
I also use my scum bug to squeeze water over my feet before getting in the tub. It stays pretty debris free.
My mom used to use a siphon stick like this for her tiny pool that was not much bigger than a hot tub. I planned on getting one initially but have never really needed it with the above methods.

These are the three we sell, the Wanda is battery powered and runs on 8 AA batteries works well and the batteries last for 4-5 months usually.Rola Chem and Polaris are suction types that don’t require batteries and work pretty good.We prefer the Wanda for easier use for most.

I ultimately bought this Jacuzzi vacuum. It was exactly what I was looking for and had been working great. Thanks for the great recommendation!

(And thanks to all the rest of you too! It was useful to look through all your recommendations.)

Depending on how fine your sand is, the Polaris spa wand types won't get it all. It'll trick you into thinking you got it, but it will just resettle in 30 min.

If you buy a motorized vacuum, you want the the cotton/poly sock, not the fine mesh filters. They're harder to clean but that's also why they work for fine debris.

I have a Polaris Spa Wand. Model is 5-100-00. It picks up sand and small debris in the spa quite well. Pumping it is good exercise. But you do need to clean it after every use. Failing to do that, I ended up with some grains of sand in the cylinder where the pump piston runs. It locked up, and I broke it trying to get things freed up.

So I'm on my second. The first came with the house. It was probably about 15 years old.
