Making repairs around the pool

Hello! We are considering purchasing a new house that has an issue with the pool Auto Fill. We are trying to get an idea of the potential cost involved to fix this. (the owner will not fix) There is a break in the water supply line to the auto filler. The break is beneath the concrete pool deck. Water from leak is pouring into the top of the auto filler and bubbling up between the pool deck and the coping. Owner has the water valve shut off and is not using auto fill. Any thoughts? We are not getting far with contacting local pool repair companies.

Not surprised you're not getting far - it's a big fix with lots of downsides as it requires ripping up the deck to figure out where the leak is. It looks like you have Kool Deck on there too so not only will the concrete need to be repaired but also the Kool Deck. Odd, being in Phoenix there should have been little danger of freeze/thaw damage but I guess it depends on how the previous owner handled it in the winter.

Danny's PEX idea may be the cheap and simple way to fix it until you can come up with a more permanent solution. How far away is the fill tub from the water line spigot that feeds it? Mine is over 100ft away so if I ever had a leak I doubt I would be able to pull PEX tubing that distance....

Re: Water line repair cost

If you haven't closed on the house yet, you might want to see if you can get someone out to inspect the deck around the pool. Since the leak is under the concrete and between the pool and the decking, there's no telling how much of the sub-base under the deck has been damaged and/or if voids are present under the decking due to water erosion. The water coming out is brownish colored so it is taking base layer sand with it. If the problem was allowed to go on for too long before it was discovered, you could have voids under the deck, under the coping or even against the wall of the pool.

Any idea of the cost or if this is a DYI project? We need to fix a switch for a pool auxiliary pump/motor and blower. The pump will turn on using the main breaker panel, but the switch at the pool equipment does not appear to operate the pump/motor/blower. Breaker is repeatedly being used to power. Easy? Hard?

A picture of the equipment pad would help. Typically an outdoor switch (if it's just a simple on/off switch) is pretty darn easy to fix...Home Depot + screwdriver + 1 hour of time....

I've noticed you have a few threads going on. Is this for the house you're thinking of buying? If you could, it's best to keep all of your questions in one general thread as it makes it easier for those of us here to help you out.
