I am wondering if cleaning, check chemicals and water balance as well as replenishing chemicals monthly is sufficient for pools that have minimal usage?

Afraid not. Even when minimally used, a pool's chemicals (and equipment) should be checked more frequently, at least once or twice a week - more frequently in some cases. The local area, placement of pool (indoor or outdoor) and the use of a cover clan also influence that interval.
Do you have some extenuating circumstances or were you just curious?

The pool company we use has had multiple cost increases and it is blowing our budget. Notwithstanding, the company is planning to move much further away. Therefore, I am expecting additional cost increases. We may need to start searching for a new company. Thanks!
