Positive magic eraser experience to remove soft yellow stain visible on walls after dropping the water level during closing.
Background
My pool remained crystal clean (following pool math) after opening (May’23) until 1 week before closing (Oct 12,23) when falling leaves, dirt and debris from pine needles, cones and soil was blown into the pool during a very windy night.
The water temp (65F) was too cold to swim and I let the FC drop to 0.5-1ppm while waiting for the closing date 2 weeks away. No surprise this low FC level was insufficient to support the organic load deposited by the wind storm, and the pool turned green.
A SLAM returned the pool to crystal clear after 1 day (10/10/23) and a FC of 16 ppm.
Closing day (10/12/23)
As the water level dropped below the skimmers and returns, I noticed the exposed walls below the water line were yellow. I started brushing the exposed walls but it did little or nothing to remove the yellow stain (the gunite pool has white walls). I then reached for a magic eraser to evaluate what it would do.
To my astonishment, it easily removed the yellow stain, no scrubbing, just a quick glide of the eraser over the wall surface. It took 3 erasers to finish cleaning the exposed walls, replacing the eraser once it broke into smaller pieces. A drawback to investigate its effect once the pool reopens, was the observation of a cloudy white residue from the detergent (eraser) mixing with the pool water. I wanted the walls to be cleaner before the pool cover was placed.
