I have a Hayward S200. I noticed that the diffuser is loose inside the filter. Seems to be bouncing up and down and almost hitting the clear domed top. Not enough sand? Just loose? Never seen this happen before. If I open open small domed top can I reseat without having to split the top and bottom halves open?

Supposed to be a "friction fit" part. Is it completely out or just loose? If out, likely will have to open the tank. If just loose, a bit of sand may have gotten in the area where the two parts fit and when pushed back into place it may then stay. Doesn't hurt to open the top and try.

Took the top dome piece off this morning. Diffuser was still connected to the elbow. There’s also the small tube that goes through as well. It’s notched so it fits in and had not come off. Nothing cracked, so put back in and put dome back on. I guess I never saw it move like that before. I imagine water pressure might cause it but I’m about 12lbs average. Quick question. What should the sand level be? About six inches from the top of the bottom half? My sand looked a little low. Thanks for the replies.

What should the sand level be?
From the owners manual ........

Carefully pour in correct amount and grade of filter sand, as specified. Sand surface should be leveled and should come to about the center of the flange of the filter tank. Use no more than the recommended amount of sand.

What’s considered the center of the flange? Looked at parts diagram but did see anything labeled as such.
