Hello...
Someone asked this same question nine years ago, so I figure it's reasonable to ask it again.

I'm looking to refurbish all or part of my gunite pool. How much depends on cost and what is in critical need of being done. The previous query resulted in two suggestions: Family Pools and Pools by Andrews. So far they look reputable. At least the BBB has no complaints against them, and they've been around for longer than my pool has.

It'd be great if I could get first-hand recommendations on these or other pool builders, both good and bad. I've been having trouble getting any place to get back to me, so the more the merrier.

Thanks!

-Eric

Sorry you did not get any responses. Site specific information is sometimes hard to get.

If you want pebbletech/pebblesheen it will be installed by kadison pool plastering, no matter what builder you use, since they have exclusivity in most of New England.
therfore you can just go right to them for an interior refresh. I believe they also do full builds, but the plaster and tile is his bread and butter. I had them do an interior refresh on a pool built in 1978. This was back in 2014. it was a positive experience. (Had a thread, but the pics are broken)

Pools by Andrew’s uses Kadison for all plastering. They actually built that pool I mentioned above. I contracted them last year to build the pool at my current house. They were good to work with. It’s weird but the use a separate company to do the start up.

triad associates can do wet edge interior and anything you want hard scape wise, but they are not a pool builder. They do some awesome decks and waterfalls though. No direct experience. They were recommended by the company that did my pool closings. You can see their work on Facebook. No idea if they do the equipment stuff.

South shore gunite never followed up with a sales person. They do a lot of pools in MA.

environmental pools was also recommended by my pool service guy. When I called them they were not doing any design work and were just bidding on jobs that were designed by landscape architects. That was over a year ago not sure what they do for refurb work.

Thanks for all the details! I'm lucky to find a local...!

Responding to some of your points...

Is Kadison only pebbletech/sheen? That might be nice, though cost is a factor. Do they take care of everything (like draining the pool?) Do they do plain smooth surfaces?

Andrew pools might have built my pool, but it was before I moved in. I tried to contact them via their web site, but have only gotten dead silence.

I tried contacting "Family Pools" in Lawrence. They got some good reviews. Have made contact with their refurbishing guy, have to follow up with him.

Triad was also recommended to me. Haven't yet contacted them.

I've seen South Shore Gunite's trucks around. Don't know anything about how good they are.

So, it sounds possible to use one outfit for the resurface, and one for the tile coping...? For example, use Kadison for the resurface and Triad for the tile/coping? I wonder if that would be cheaper that using an outfit that just subcontracts out to them.

Thanks again for your reply.

Kadison also does regular plaster, and some other things. Application | Kadison Pool
Call andrews directly. They should take your info and have a sales person get back to you.
Triad site: — Pool Coping & Tile from Triad Associates Inc.

Most places do the coping stone, its only when you get into the cantilever concrete stuff when triad will be your primary option.

Kadison did pump out the pool - i did have to ask for them to drop a pump off though.
