Leaking Triton II from bottom of filter tank?

Just replaced diverter valve as it was leaking and I replaced the spider gasket but still had same issue. It was worth a shot. Approximately 4 months ago I replaced the pump with a Pentair Superflow Variable speed pump as the existing pump failed. Plumbing is mainly 1.5inch PVC but has some very old galvanized 2 inch plumbing. When I replaced the pump I added a Flow Vis H2Flow Controls Flow meter FV- C-15. When the pump programing has the pump running at full RPM, flow rate displayed is 60 PSI. Now the question: The fiberglass tank appears to be leaking from the bottom. As one would expect, I cannot see the leak as the tank is in fixed position and on the base. I have validated that the diverter connections are solid and not leaking but still see water coming from what appears to be the bottom of the tank. It is not leaking at the drain valve. Is it possible that running for a few hours a day at 60PSI has caused the fibrerglass tank to fail? I have no idea how old this equipment is, I purchased the house 5 years ago (built in 1957). The in-ground 40' x 20' concrete pool is old but I have no idea how old all of these items are.

I'm shutting the pool down for the winter (I do run the filter at least 12 hours a day even when closed for the season). If I have to repair /replace the tank I'd prefer to do it in the spring. Is there a relief vale or fitting at the bottom of the tank that could leak? Is this a common issue?

Thanks-

Hello and welcome to TFP! Whether the intermittent 60 psi was the main cause of the vessel failure is hard to tell. A new filter may have been able to tolerate it for a while, but a filter several years is a different story. In any case, there's nothing else under the vessel other than the drain plug. Perhaps with minimal run times and very controlled filter pressure, you can limp along this winter with a tiny leak until spring. Be careful though that the leak doesn't get worse. Vessel failures can be quite dangerous.

Welcome to TFP.

What is the PSI on the filter gauge? 60 PSI?

What is the flow rate on your Flow Vis? 60 GPM?

Only thing on the bottom of your filter to leak should be a drain plug. You need to check your filter base for cracks. Any crack is reason to shutdown the filter until repaired or replaced. A filter is a pressure vessel and can cause damage and injure people if it lets go suddenly.

Welcome to the forum!

To my knowledge, flow vis does not measure psi but only flow rate. Your psi is MUCH lower (pool pumps cannot produce 60 psi but they can easily reach 60 gpm.)

Do you have a psi gauge on the filter?

And, yes, if your filter body is leaking, you should absolutely replace it.......NOW.

It is a safety issue.
